Choose the correct account type and tax treatment
Map real accounts to YARCalc’s 401(k), IRA, Roth, brokerage, cash, HSA, 529, and fixed-income choices.
When this applies
Use this whenever adding an account or deciding whether two balances should be separate.
Where to enter it
Portfolio > Scenario Editor > Accounts & Holdings > Add Account
How to enter it
- Use 401(k) or Traditional IRA for tax-deferred retirement money.
- Use Roth 401(k) or Roth IRA for tax-free retirement money.
- Use Taxable brokerage for securities whose gains and dividends are taxable.
- Use Cash for spendable cash; Interest account, Treasury/fixed income, or Savings bond for the matching asset form.
- Use HSA and 529 only for their restricted qualified purposes.
- Choose the actual owner and add at least one holding.
How YARCalc uses it
- Tax treatment affects withdrawal ordering, tax events, RMDs, and after-tax results.
- Accounts without holdings are ignored by portfolio calculations.
